THIS WEEK, DURING THE 35th ANNIVERSARY OF THE
SHAFER COMMISSION'S REPORT, OHIO'S DECRIM LAW
MAY BE CANCELLED IN CINCINNATI !!!
35 years ago today, on March 22, 1972, the National Commission on Marihuana (sic) and Drug Abuse,
chaired by
former Pennsylvania Governor Raymond P. Shafer , recommended Congress change federal law
and
State legislatures change state law so that possession of marijuana would no longer be a criminal offense.
Numerous states including Ohio, decriminalized possession to a payout ticket as a result of this
recommendation which is known as
the Shafer Commission.
The Shafer Commission
concluded .....
"Therefore, the Commission recommends that the possession of marijuana for personal use no longer be an offense, and that
casual distribution of small amounts of marihuana for no remuneration, or insignificant remuneration, no longer be an offense.”
